Developing the Program
I continued to hone the process of teaching this Kick Builders’ method and sought to find new players both young and old who I felt were in dire need of assistance in developing the ideal kicking action I had designed. I moved up the coast into a new footy club, coaching juniors and experimenting various ways to reduce the time needed to convert poor kicking styles into what we term this ideal kicking action. Basically the Kick Building process was lying dormant and put on the ‘back burner’ as the rejection of my teaching method by the AFL hierarchy was taking its toll.
Behold! A new impetus in the name of a one Sean Clarke arrived knocking on the door declaring his intentions to come and assist with the marketing of this process to the AFL clubs. I was suffering from a feeling that nobody really desired my new concept of teaching at the AFL level and I was rather negative towards him in that there was any life left in this teaching process I had originated. Sean was a very positive and very insistent believer in this method that I had designed and even allowing for my negativity, this did not dissuade him from attacking it ‘boots and all’.
Yes! He was indeed the catalyst to resurrect this teaching format and the name itself ‘Kick Builders’ was derived after his association with me on this second coming. Previously my teaching method had been titled ‘Skillbuild’ but it was felt that although we cover teaching all the basic skills of this great game, our main focus had to be on the KICK as we have said before it is the ‘holy grail’ of skill teaching. Much has been worked on from the initial teaching format to shorten the process and become more professional with our approach. We now have a web site, a teaching manual and many more video clips of players who have undergone the Kick Builders’ process (including a female) to add to our armoury that support our claims of what can be achieved using our teaching method.
We continue to make presentations to the AFL each season and maybe one day this stone-walling of our ideas will somehow cease to exist, for all we ask is for a trial to show what can be achieved with our claims. Each year they at the AFL hierarchy devise a new strategy for teaching the drop punt kicking action and from all reports from the coaches who have taken on board these strategies from the AFL, they are left bewildered on how to implement their ideals.
We continue to work on ways to provide our services to all and sundry throughout this vast country of ours, as the logistics of reaching both individuals and footy clubs throughout the land is the major stumbling block at present.
The story of Kick Builders is ongoing as we continue to look at new ways to assist both junior and senior footballers at all levels.
